Biography

The leader of the Provisional Agency - at least, in everything but name. He manages the island's police, oversees its upkeep, approves new residents, meddles in the other Agency branches, and takes on more work than seems humanly possible. Quinten gets it all done, of course - finding meaning and purpose in the god-given task of tending to Evenne, assigned by Yerxes themself - an authority he respects deeply.

Though his expectations are high, his fair decisions and good management keep the Agency running efficiently and happily, even during cycles the island finds itself under attack or guiding the world. The people under his guidance respect and admire him, though it's a well-known secret that Quinten is something of a control freak, having weaseled most of Director Arscay's responsibilities out from under him and often consuming other high-profile jobs out of an effort to ensure their continual excellent completion under his command. Still, his judgments are fair and he has a good eye for talent - it would be annoying if he wasn't so damn good at all of it.

His little free time is spent with his partners - the other Caretakers of the island, the true followers of Yerxes. His passion for and adoration of them is endearingly steadfast - taking care of them is his stress relief and fun rolled into one, as he enjoys chasing them about and ensuring they don't get into hijinks.

Relationship: Soulmate

They met as children and have never left each other's side since. Priori is a kind, sweet soul who needs protecting from people who would take advantage of his patience and generosity, and in turn Priori cherishes and takes care of Quinten in a way he can't get anywhere else. They've known each other for so long, there are no secrets between them - nothing to hide, nothing to fear, free of judgment, full of trust. Safety and love are central in their dynamic. It fills Quinten with warmth.

Relationship: Absolute Devotion

His little brat. It's true, you know. His little self-hating brat who needs someone to pull him out of his head sometimes and remind him to exist in the moment. Festi's blank persona leads many to question how he holds a relationship, but the misconceptions of outsiders have never come between them. Even if Festi teases him and presses his buttons, he proved his undying loyalty long ago when he saved Quinten during the Edellyn era - even though Quinten warned him he didn't know what he was unleashing. And now they're inseparable.

Relationship: Walking Disaster (affectionate)

Arscay drives him up a fucking wall. He makes it his job to "give Quinty some fun in his life!" and by the stars does he never stop. In its worst moments, it feels like Arscay takes nothing seriously - but Quinten knows that's not true, knows that it's just a carefully-constructed mask to hide behind years of neglect and rejection. But of his partners, Arscay can escape his clutches the easiest, being most equal in power. The chase is exhilirating, having Arscay finally under his hand deeply satisfying. He will always be a place of safety for the forgotten middle Valkyre.

♥♥♥♥♡ Uzerin

Relationship: Best Friend

Someone to vent to, who provides excellent advice and a keen ear. His intelligence, wisdom, and insight are invaluable to Quinten, and he's one of few outside the Caretakers who could truly claim to know him. They can only meet once a month at best, but that brief meeting is always wonderful and deeply cherished. He's an excellent person.

Relationship: Life's Work

Given to him by Yerxes - something he can focus all of his energy, time, and effort towards. A god-given purpose, a reason to exist, something to tether himself to after his traumatic childhood and tumultuous young adulthood. In many ways, it was the light at the end of the tunnel for him - hope. As such, he treats the Agency with complete respect and dedication, and takes its successful management seriously. It is a core part of his identity to be its leader, and he strives to be an excellent one.

♥♥♥♥♡ Headline

Relationship: Subordinate

Very useful. It's hard to remember a time before Headline was helping with the Agency's records and databases and information. He's cheerful, too, which is always a good attitude to see when coming in to work. He has his moments of being underhanded, but it's not like Quinten isn't used to people using him or backstabbing him, really.

♥♥♥♥♡ Yerxes

Relationship: God

His god. What more is there to say? He always prayed to Yerxes as a child, and became one of his closest disciples after the Edellyn events. He was given the island to protect by them, and has dutifully done this work for the rest of his life.

♥♥♥♥♡ Aither

Relationship: God's Boyfriend

Not to be disrespectful, mind, but that's truthfully how he conceives of Aither. The protective sides of Quinten do foster a twinge of hatred for Aither for hurting Arscay so much when they were younger, but of course there's the caveat - they were younger. But, honestly... if Yerxes told Quinten that they wanted to start a romantic relationship with him if he abandoned his other partners, he'd simply say no.

♥♥♥♥♡ Vallha

Relationship: Friend...?

Vallha is a hard man to get a read on. He's distant, reclusive, and soft-spoken. He seems so tired, exhausted by everything, world-weary. He is part of the trinity alongside Aither and Yerxes, but he does not carry himself with a godly aura or seem all that invested in his work.

♥♥♥♥♡ Ente

Relationship: Best Subordinate

"Best" is a loaded term, but Ente is loyal, hardworking, and always on time. He encapsulates the perfect employee of the Agency, and Quinten is more than happy to send Ente in his stead for any and everything - a high order, coming from a control freak such as him.

♥♥♥♡♡ Subtitle

Relationship: Subordinate

Headline's creation, and a point of contention briefly. But Subtitle is helpful enough, and eager to prove itself a worthy agency member. It still rubs Quinten the wrong way that Headline went behind his back, though. That's not something easily forgotten.

♡♡♡♡♡ Angel

Relationship: This Fucking Guy

Cismin has always had flights of fancy, and Angel is the latest in a long line. Their ideals of reforming the Agency are absurd, especially seeing as it has led Evenne since inception without major fault. But Quinten will humor the gods and treat Angel... ... ...acceptably until Cismin tires of them and stops obligating Quinten to humor it all.

Relationship: This Fucking Guy (Again)

A pest, a charlatan. An annoyance. Self-important egotist, someone who needs to be controlled and removed. Otherwise he'll set everything on fire just for a spot of fun. Need he go on?

There's a lot he could say to them. Most of it, honestly, he'd rather not. He hopes they're doing alright. But he doesn't want to see their face. Nor speak to them. But he hopes they're alright.

Trivia

• Yerxes gave each of his True Followers one power, the scope of which each follower could request. Quinten choose unnatural super-strength, the likes of which let him stop a moving train with his bare hands. People are in for a nasty surprise when they pick fights with him.
• Xharde gifted Quinten an hourglass which allows him to double-up on time to complete more tasks at once. He's figured out how to use it recursively by now.
• Has one sibling living on Evenne still, but the rest of his family is dead. Good riddance, honestly.
• Has never actually done the "purified an enchanted object" Rhino thing. Never plans to.
• Takes, and has, a million pictures of his partners. His office, covered in them, is always a surprise to newbies.
