A vestige of a ghost, Mortie is comprised of the remains of the psyche of Theta's previous leader, Dumortis, and the magic of a Magnitude Fragment, Kolo - gluing together those pieces back into as complete of a whole as they could be, sheared clean of primoridal Bereave's corrupting influence. For that is how Dumortis died - a valiant and brave leader, a hero to his people, serving as bait to distract the demon while Kolo and Vuaria crafted a permanent solution to protect Theta from corruption. A night veiled in arrogance cost Dumortis his life - but not before Bereave twisted and warped him, punched holes in his identity and wound them back through rotted and decayed, distorted him into everything he hated and despised. And though the magic of a Mag is powerful, powerful enough to resurrect what pieces he could find....
It's hard. He has Dumortis' memories, every second of them. All the confidence, all the power, all the adoring love for him that Theta's people felt, the weight of his legacy and his sacrifice. It's him. But it's not him - he's only pieces, incomplete pieces, and Kolo's magic holding those pieces together in an external shell, bits of him still corrupted by Bereave. He's not Dumortis, he's mold on Dumortis' legacy, brought back to life against his will because Vuaria missed him. And where Dumortis was confident, he's erratic; where there was deep empathy, he can only produce weak facsimiles; where there was leadership, he can barely make it a day without thinking about suicide. He scares people, he makes them uncomfortable. He's not the grand leader they remember, the man who gave up his life to Bereave to ensure their safety. So Mortie avoids it all, instead working as a behemoth-hunter and surveyor for Theta's expansions into its Universe Core, far away from anyone he could ever upset. But it still hurts.

God it fucking kills him. Kills him over and over and over and over, everything a fucking reminder, everything a fucking comparison. Everyone tries to be nice about it and it makes him just sick. He knows they're all thinking it, all turning up their noses at how he's ruining Dumortis' legacy. All his fucking fault. It fucking kills him.
Relationship: It's Complicated....
...Look, he ain't stupid. He knew Vuaria had feelings for Dumortis - those kinds of feelings. And now Vuaria looks at him, and it's all pity and affection and protectiveness all at once, and it's just - too much to handle. He loves Vuaria, he really does. He wouldn't be here without Vuaria. And he knows Vuaria wants to take care of him, make him feel better after everything that happened. But it just feels... wrong. Like he's leading him on or something. Like they're both pretending that he's something he's not. It hurts....
Relationship: Bestest Friend
Haha. Of all the Frags in Theta, Szeretet seems to have... gotten over the Dumortis thing the best, and has accepted Mortie for who he is without complaint. It's funny - the guy can barely hold down a stable friendship and he seems like a judgemental bat on the surface, but... he's got a good heart. And he tries. And he spends a lot of time with Mortie, more than he deserves. It's fun to just shoot the shit with Szeretet and knock over a few targets or whatever and just... feel like himself for a bit again.
Relationship: Ah, You Are Motherfucker
Man, this guy. Murders a fellow Fragment in cold blood and then gets all weepy when Mortie says he's a moldering effigy worthy of death, so eat up, bitch. What's up with Beta, eh? All bark and no bite? Haha. They both know that's not true. Something about Theta just brings out the... mushiness in Zirc. And seeing Zirc get all mother-hen on the other Theta Frags... it makes Mortie happy. It just feels strange when applied to him.
Radiia pops by often. The guy has some interesting ideas, but they're ones that Mortie supports in all honesty. And he's... struggled a lot, too. He needs someone to chat to, someone to talk with over a bonfire and just gossip or whatever. And Mortie can be that person for him. It's more than he can be for most people, at least. It feels so nice to... matter to someone, to be useful to someone again.

Stars, he wants to shake Ciro by the shoulders and shout at him "Get back with Szeretet!" and watch his boys live happily ever after. He knows Ciro would say something endlessly patient and sweet like, "I'm waiting for Szeretet to feel comfortable again", and Mortie will kneel over and explode having to watch them dance around the subject for hundreds of years again. He's such a nice boy, too, perfect for someone like Szeretet who really needs more nice boys around him.
Vivi's really come into himself, you know? He used to be shy and withdrawn and reclusive, locking himself up in his rooms shaking and terrified. And now look at him - a leader to rival Vuaria, bursting with confidence. Seeing everyone blossoming, turning into these beautiful versions of themselves... it makes it all worth it, doesn't it? To know that he helped bring that around, gave them the stage for it. Look at Vivi's smiles....
Ah, Meyp. It makes him happy to know how comfortable and cozy Meyp's gotten. A nice life, free of major strife, free of fear, free of corruption. That's what he died for. And it was worth every agonizing second Bereave kept him alive against his will, through torture and agony. It was worth it to know Meyp can live happily in a world where he never had to struggle.
To think this sneaky little shit was contacting outsiders the whole time Theta was locked down! Haha, not that Mortie's mad - nah, he respects the hustle. Imagine the level of trust, to reach out to other Originals and bridge those gaps... it was out of the question during his time, y'know, with the Bereave attacks and Beta's invasions and... everything's changed so much. For the better. Sometimes it makes him feel even more out of place....
Heera's still shy, but he's happy, too, down there with Vivi. Honestly, he should've seen their friendship coming a mile away - they always had similar interests, and when Vivi gained some confidence, it slotted together with Heera's dutifulness perfectly. They're so fucking happy. It blows his mind, that these people he knew as needing protection and security and a safe place - have grown up so, so much... all while he was stagnating.
He fixed Theta, which means he lived up to his side of the deal. So, he can't be mad at Kolo. Especially not when he thinks about cool-headed Vuaria sobbing and sniffling, on his knees, begging. And part of his brain is made of... Kolo's magic now, too. Just... maybe it'd be nice if someone had asked him before... going through all that trouble for nothing.
- Goes by Dumortie instead of Dumortis to attempt to differentiate himself. Likes being called Mortie.
- The pearl contains most of his mind and thought processing; when it's separated from him, he has a harder time thinking. Usually sounds somewhat disjointed by default, though.
- The pearl is completely indestructable - it can be tossed, slammed into things, stabbed, etc., and nothing can so much as scratch it. Mortie is therefore more flippant with it than he probably should be.
- Calling him "actively" suicidal isn't wrong, but he can't kill himself literally because the pearl is immortal.
- Resurrected explicitly because Vuaria was distraught and asked Kolo, who didn't say no but warned him it wouldn't be... pretty.
- Dumortis tended to wear button-ups and slacks. Mortie will not wear pants to save his life.
- Has the worst self-care imaginable. What's a shower?

- Note, his halo is not his eye color.
- Pearl can be omitted or included, up to you. He'd generally be holding it, though - in hands or in his tail (if hands are full).
- Tail is not feathers, it's closer to tendrils.
- One half of the cloak-thing has a sleeve, the other doesn't. It's okay if you miss this detail though lol
- The more feral and erratic the pose, the better.
Generic Anatomy Notes
- Muzzles are small and boxy, and they don't have a kitty or dog nose.
- Eyes can be stylized as you'd normally draw.
- Please note that they have four fingers and three toes.
